Meet Laura Kate

When her senior year AP English teacher asked the class about their career aspirations, Laura Kate (LK) Genevish mentally ticked through her previous interests: ballet, veterinary medicine, crime scene investigation...What's something you've been interested in your entire life? Her teacher's voice cut through her thought process. Then, it hit her.

Working with children. Literacy. Education.

As a child in a military family, Laura Kate grew up in New Mexico, North Carolina, Nevada, and Virginia (twice). By the age of five, she had read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy and discovered a passion for eating Mexican food and visiting the flamingos at the zoo. As the years went by, she continued to read - eventually falling in love with the written word.

This appreciation brought her to Christopher Newport University, a young and vibrant liberal arts school located in Newport News, Virginia, where she could pursue a degree in English, concentrate on growing her writing and leadership skills, and begin working towards a Master's of Education. Laura Kate plans to graduate with her Bachelor's in May of 2016 and return to CNU for one more year to fulfill her education degree.

In her free time, Laura Kate runs half-marathons, perfects her guacamole recipe, and co-leads CNU's chapter of Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ).
